Super73 FAQ

Ben Buckler Boards are here to support your Super73 adventure with answers to your questions and links to helpful videos:

Do you do custom designs or orders?

Yes we can, in terms of colour and minor accessory additions. Please get in touch with your ideas so we can see how we can help you. Most of the cost involved will be labour from our bike mechanic.

Fitting of baby seats needs to be done by parents or 3rd parties.

How do you turn on the lights?

On bikes with a thumb throttle display, press the power button for a second until lights turn on. On models without the thumb throttle, press the "UP" arrow for a second until lights go on.

Can you ride with a second rider?

You can ride with 26 riders if you can fit. However, we never recommend that more than one person at a time ride on our Super73's. Weight distribution can be thrown off with two riders and the Super73 may not perform as advertised. Maximum weight capacity is noted as 147kg.

Do you sell the frame separately?

No. All bikes are sold complete.

What accessories are available?

There is a full accessory line including bags, cases, holders, and much more.

How do you install the extended seat?

Simply unscrew the standard seat, there are 3 screws holding it in place, under the seat. Then screw the extended seat onto the bike frame using the same 3 screws. Turn the screw through the mounting plate holes slowly and you will find that it fits well.

How do you install the fenders?

You may view this assembly video here or this downloadable PDF here.

How much does it cost to have the bike professionally assembled?

Bike shop prices vary but we insist that you have your bike professionally built. Some assembly components of the Super73 can be tricky and not function properly if they aren’t professionally assembled.

Do you offer pickups?

Yes. You can order from us and arrange to pickup from our warehouse in Marrickville. You can also arrange to book a test-ride with us before buying. More information here.

Can you put a child seat on the back?

We don't recommend that anyone under 16 ride on our Super73 bikes. Please check your local RMS for e-bike regulations and age limits.

Fitting of baby seats needs to be done by parents or 3rd parties.

Do you offer financing?

We offer 6 month interest free financing through Zip.co. Also known as ZipMoney and ZipPay.

How long is the warranty?

We offer 24 month warranty. More information can be found here.

Can you add foot pegs?

We don’t recommend adding footpegs to the Super73, as the bike is not designed to have a passenger on the back safely.

Can I ship the Super73 from Australia to another country?

We currently only deliver to main land Australia and Tasmania. Please contact us for a quote if you live on a remote island off the Australian mainland or if you wish to purchase from another country.

We are working on allowing shipping to New Zealand. Please contact us for more information

How long does the battery take to charge?

The battery takes anywhere between 3-6 hours to fully charge depending on battery or charger. Leaving your battery plugged in for longer than the charge time needed is not an issue. Your charger has an automatic shut off and the
battery will stop accepting a charge once charging is complete.

What is the range on Super73 bikes? How long does the battery last?

The range of an electric bike depends on a few variables such as rider weight, the terrain surface and incline, and even wind. Battery range below or above this level is normal and not cause for concern.

Conditions that effect your battery's range:

  • Ambiant Temperature: Extreme cold and heat can affect the batteries capacity.
  • Total Number of Charge Cycles: As the battery ages, total capacity can decrease.
  • Wind: Riding into a strong headwind can decrease range.
  • Road Conditions: Excessively rough or hilly terrain requires the consumption of more power.
  • Load: Carrying extra weight on the bike or in a backpack will use more energy.
  • Operator Weight
  • Repeated Acceleration from a standing start.
  • Proper Gear Usage: Taking full advantage of the available gear will significantly increase range.
  • Poor Maintenance: Under inflated tires, misadjusted brakes, a dry or dirty chain, can decrease range.

Tips for Maximising Range:

  • Charge the battery at room temperature (0-29 C)
  • Lithium Batteries have no chemical memory, and it is not necessary to discharge the battery completely for best performance. Charging a partially full battery will have no negative effects.
  • Maintain proper tire pressures and lube the chain regularly.
  • Operating temperatures between 4-29 C will significantly increase range.
  • Get your bike a regular tune up (every 6 months) at Ben Buckler Boards.

Do I need to register the bike with the RMS?

Nope. Our street-legal bikes do not require a license, registration or insurance. They are classified as bicycles.

Why is the wait so long?

These bikes are so popular that they literally cannot make them fast enough. We hate being sold out, but the pre-order system allows you to reserve your place in line and shorten your wait.

How much does the Super73 weigh and what are the dimensions?

The weights and dimensions of all the Super73 models can be found on their respective product pages.

What's the difference between hydraulic and mechanical disc brakes?

The major difference between hydraulic and mechanical disc brakes is that the latter uses a cable similar to a derailleur cable, while the former uses brake fluid similar to what’s used in cars.

As previously mentioned, mechanical brakes make use of a cable in order to brake. Just like a derailleur cable, dirt can affect their performance and stretch them out. Mechanical brakes do not stop as efficiently as hydraulic brakes, however the simple cable makes them easier to adjust. Mechanical brakes offer easy adjustments if you like adjusting your brakes on the fly, and are more common as well as cheaper to replace.

Hydraulic brakes are designed to use brake fluid, which becomes compressed when the brake lever is squeezed and allows the brakes to function. This is a superb technique that offers stronger, more reliable braking performance. However, the technique will cost you more than the brakes themselves. You will have to ensure that the brake lines are air free, and maintain care for the brake fluid in case their performance starts to suffer.

Just like with brakes of your car, you will have to change the fluid at times. (Luckily this only needs to be done every so often.) Keep in mind that these brakes are in an enclosed system, meaning you don’t need to worry about mud and dirt affecting the performance of your bike. The only exception for both hydraulic and mechanical brakes is if the pads themselves get dirty.

Hydraulic Brakes Pros and Cons:

PROS

  • Excellent modulation
  • Unsurpassed stopping power
  • Open Systems with huge rotors capable of handling very high loads of heat from “heavy-duty” riders

CONS

  • More expensive
  • Closed systems can lock-up or blow-off hydraulic seals/lines if overheated

What is the difference between a 2A and a 5A charger?

In simple terms, a 5A charger will charge your battery faster than a 2A charger. The 5 amp (A) charger allows more current to pass to charge the battery. You can use the 2A charger on any battery but the SG1 models all come with a 5A charger.

What is Pedal Assist?

Pedal Assist automatically turns on the motor when you pedal. With pedal assist you do not need to use a throttle to control the motor.

There are two types of Pedal Assist: Cadence Sensor Type which measures IF you are pedaling and a Torque Sensor Type which measures HOW HARD you are pedaling. The Super73-SG has a thumb throttle, as well as a cadence sensor.

1. Cadence Sensors
The basic cadence sensor uses a magnet on the crank, it turns the motor ON when you start pedaling and turns it OFF when you stop pedaling. It works more or less like a switch. You control the boost level and speed by adjusting the assist mode manually up and down.

The advantage is that it's an inexpensive way to get some sort of pedal assist onto the bike, but the disadvantage is that the pedal assistance can feel jerky, laggy and counterintuitive. If you want to pedal faster than the motor is spinning, the motor will actively work against your efforts. The Super 73 has a cadence sensor as it is most often used with the throttle only.

2. Torque Sensors
The torque sensor is a totally different technology that uses a precision strain gauge. It measures your actual force on the pedal, sampling at 1,000 times per second over the entire pedal stroke.

The harder you pedal, the more power it gives to the motor. If you pedal lighter, less power goes to the motor. It makes this adjustment in real time so it is technically amplifying your every input. It feels like you're bionic.

Most all higher-end e-bikes use torque sensors and in some countries, cadence-only sensors are not allowed to be sold. The disadvantage is the cost is significantly higher to implement this technology as the precision component is relatively more expensive.

The SUPER73-S2 has long been one of our most iconic models, known for its timeless design. We've taken this classic and infused it with a touch of moto-nostalgia to create a ride that stands out like never before. Featuring two bold new colorways, MAXXIS SuperSucker tires, and upgraded suspension, the S2 is ready to tackle any adventure. And we’ve taken it even further with the introduction of a powerful new UL2271 Compliant battery system, giving you full control over your range and power output. Built for riders 16 and older, this is the ultimate eBike experience.

Designed for city streets and weekend adventures, this special edition takes the iconic S2 platform and gives you two ways to ride in style.

Option 1: Single Seat + Centre Frame Bag

Lean and mean. This setup keeps the classic single-seat style but adds a custom centre frame bag that fills out the middle of the bike. The result?

  • A sleek, motorbike-inspired silhouette

  • Extra storage for your gear, tools, or daily essentials

  • A streamlined look that turns heads everywhere you roll

Perfect for riders who want style and practicality wrapped in one.

Option 2: Extended Seat + Relocated Battery

Comfort and capability combined. The extended seat version reimagines the S2 SE with:

  • Room for a passenger so you can share the ride

  • A lower-mounted battery, improving stability and handling

  • A relaxed, stretched-out style that makes longer rides effortless

Which will you choose: the sharp single-seater with storage, or the extended-seat cruiser built for two?

Please note: The bike shown in the image is the U.S. model. The Australian version features 8-speed gears (and therefor no chain guard) and includes orange wheel reflectors to meet local safety regulations.
