Super73 FAQ

Is the SUPER73 legal to ride on public roads in Australia?

Yes, if your bike was purchased from September 2026 onwards. All SUPER73 bikes sold in Australia from this date are fully compliant with current Australian e-bike laws:

  • Pedal assist is limited to 25 km/h
  • The throttle is limited to 6 km/h
  • Motor power output is limited to 250W

These limits are locked at the factory and can't be changed through any app or setting, so the bike cannot be "unlocked." This is a legal requirement in its own right. Under current laws, any e-bike that can be switched into a higher-powered or faster mode, such as an "off-road" or "unlimited" mode, is not street legal, even if it's ridden in its street mode on public roads.

Bikes purchased before September 2026 are not classified as street legal under current (2026) Australian e-bike laws.

E-bike regulations may change, so we recommend checking your state's road authority for the latest rules.

Do you do custom designs or orders?

Only minor accessory additions. Get in touch with your local authorised SUPER73 retailer with your ideas and they can let you know how they can help. Most of the cost involved will be labour from the retailer's bike mechanic.

Fitting of baby seats needs to be done by parents or third parties.

How do you turn on the lights?

On older bikes with a thumb throttle display, press the power button for a second until the lights turn on. On newer models, press the "UP" arrow for a second until the lights go on.

Can you ride with a second rider?

SUPER73 never recommends that more than one person ride a SUPER73 at a time. Weight distribution can be thrown off with two riders, and the bike may not perform as advertised. Maximum weight capacity is 147kg (total weight of rider and bike).

Do you sell the frame separately?

No. All SUPER73 bikes are sold complete.

What accessories are available?

SUPER73 has a full accessory line including bags, cases, holders and much more. You can see the full range of accessories here.

How much does it cost to have the bike professionally assembled?

Prices vary between bike shops, but SUPER73 strongly recommends having your bike professionally built by an authorised SUPER73 retailer. Some assembly components can be tricky and may not function properly if they aren't professionally assembled.

Do you offer pickups?

Yes. You can arrange to pick up your bike from your nearest authorised SUPER73 retailer. Many retailers also offer test rides, so you can try before you buy. Find your nearest retailer here.

Can you put a child seat on the back?

SUPER73 doesn't recommend that anyone under 16 ride a SUPER73. Please check your state's road authority for e-bike regulations and age limits.

Fitting of baby seats needs to be done by parents or third parties.

Do you offer financing?

On this website we unfortunately do not, but many of the authorised retailers of SUPER73 bikes do offer financing options such as Afterpay and Zip.

How long is the warranty?

SUPER73 bikes come with a 24-month warranty. More information can be found here.

Can you add foot pegs?

You can, but SUPER73 doesn't recommend adding foot pegs, as the bike is not designed to safely carry a passenger on the back.

Can I ship a SUPER73 from Australia to another country?

We currently only deliver to mainland Australia and Tasmania. Please contact us for a quote if you live on a remote island off the Australian mainland or if you wish to purchase from another country.

We're working on shipping to New Zealand. Please contact us for more information.

How long does the battery take to charge?

The battery takes anywhere between 3 and 6 hours to fully charge, depending on the battery and charger. Leaving your battery plugged in for longer than needed is not an issue. Your charger has an automatic shut-off, and the battery will stop accepting a charge once charging is complete.

What is the range on SUPER73 bikes? How long does the battery last?

The range of an electric bike depends on a few variables such as rider weight, terrain surface and incline, and even wind. Battery range below or above the stated level is normal and not cause for concern.

Conditions that affect your battery's range:

  • Ambient temperature: extreme cold and heat can affect the battery's capacity.
  • Total number of charge cycles: as the battery ages, total capacity can decrease.
  • Wind: riding into a strong headwind can decrease range.
  • Road conditions: rough or hilly terrain requires more power.
  • Load: carrying extra weight on the bike or in a backpack uses more energy.
  • Rider weight.
  • Repeated acceleration from a standing start.
  • Proper gear usage: taking full advantage of the available gears will significantly increase range.
  • Poor maintenance: under-inflated tyres, misadjusted brakes, or a dry or dirty chain can decrease range.

Tips for maximising range:

  • Charge the battery at room temperature (0–29°C).
  • Lithium batteries have no chemical memory, so it isn't necessary to fully discharge the battery for best performance. Charging a partially full battery has no negative effects.
  • Maintain proper tyre pressures and lube the chain regularly.
  • Riding in temperatures between 4–29°C will significantly increase range.
  • Get your bike a regular tune-up (every 6 months) at your local authorised SUPER73 retailer.

Do I need to register the bike?

Nope. SUPER73 street-legal bikes don't require a licence, registration or insurance. They're classified as bicycles.

Why is the wait so long?

SUPER73 bikes are so popular that they literally can't be made fast enough. We hate being sold out, but the pre-order system lets you reserve your place in line and shorten your wait.

How much does a SUPER73 weigh and what are the dimensions?

The weights and dimensions of all SUPER73 models can be found on their respective product pages.

What's the difference between hydraulic and mechanical disc brakes?

The major difference is that mechanical disc brakes use a cable, similar to a derailleur cable, while hydraulic brakes use brake fluid, similar to what's used in cars.

Like a derailleur cable, a mechanical brake cable can be affected by dirt and can stretch over time. Mechanical brakes don't stop as efficiently as hydraulic brakes, but the simple cable makes them easier to adjust. They're great if you like adjusting your brakes on the fly, and they're more common and cheaper to replace.

Hydraulic brakes use brake fluid, which is compressed when the brake lever is squeezed. This gives stronger, more reliable braking performance, but they cost more to maintain. You'll need to make sure the brake lines are air-free and keep an eye on the brake fluid in case performance starts to drop.

Just like the brakes on your car, you'll need to change the fluid occasionally (luckily only every so often). Because it's an enclosed system, mud and dirt won't affect performance. The only exception, for both hydraulic and mechanical brakes, is if the pads themselves get dirty.

Hydraulic brakes, pros:

  • Excellent modulation
  • Unsurpassed stopping power
  • Large rotors capable of handling high heat loads from heavy-duty riding

Hydraulic brakes, cons:

  • More expensive
  • Can lock up or blow hydraulic seals/lines if overheated

What's the difference between a 3A and a 5A charger?

In simple terms, a 5A charger charges your battery faster than a 3A charger, because it allows more current to flow to the battery.

What is pedal assist?

Pedal assist automatically turns on the motor when you pedal, so you don't need to use the throttle to control the motor.

There are two types of pedal assist: a cadence sensor, which measures if you're peddling, and a torque sensor, which measures how hard you're peddling.

  1. Cadence sensors: an inexpensive way to add pedal assist to a bike, but the assistance can feel jerky, laggy and counterintuitive. If you pedal faster than the motor is spinning, the motor can actively work against your efforts.
  2. Torque sensors: the harder you pedal, the more power goes to the motor, and the lighter you pedal, the less power it gives. It adjusts in real time, amplifying your every input, so it feels like you're bionic. Most higher-end e-bikes use torque sensors, and in some countries cadence-only sensors can't be sold. The downside is cost, as the precision components are more expensive.

Safety Certification

This Super73 model is covered under NSW Fair Trading Certificate No. 29542 in complaince with UL2849:2022 and is issued to Ben Buckler Boards Pty Ltd.

EN 15194 Certified — Built to meet internationally recognised e-bike safety and performance standards.

Road legality information

Before using this vehicle, check the applicable local laws relating to your intended use of the vehicle on roads and road related areas.

⚠️ Legal notice: In Australia, e-bike throttles are road legal only up to 6 km/h without pedalling. Above that, the motor must only assist while you pedal and cut out at 25 km/h. All SUPER73 e-bikes we sell ship with a throttle limited to 6 km/h and cannot be unlocked via any app. Modifying a bike to exceed these limits makes it illegal to ride on public roads and paths. Rules vary by state.
